#DS16 Uclan Games Design opening night

The private view of the BA(Hons) Games Design degree show proved to be a memorable and exciting occasion, with this year's graduates show-casing a variety of work, including VR, 3D modelling, technical skills, level design, games design and character and environment art.

The student work included several playable games that both adult and our younger visitors enjoyed testing out.
It was great to see students' friends and family and also so many of our fantastic Alumni there who gave some valuable encouragement and advice to our current  students and it was lovely to catch up with them.

Also, cool to see our Executive Head of College, Andrew Ireland among us checking out the Oculus Rift VR headset and experiencing some of our student environments in the virtual dimension.
Not to mention several of our Principle lecturers queuing up to take their turn in VR.

The big highlight of the day at the opening night of the degree show was to see our very own graduate, William Butterworth winning the ?#?DS16? Creative Focus Media Award! An Oscars-style award ceremony, sponsored by Creative Lancashire, where
course tutors have nominated the student that best represents their course.
Really well done to Will.
Will was photographed with Uclan's Vice Chancellor, Professor Mike Thomas, plus VIP guests and award winners from all areas of study across the school.
Special guests include Tony Prosser, Managing Director at RealtimeUK and Matthew Wilcock, winner of the Great Pottery Throw Down.
Will is a very engaging student who approaches his work with a professional and positive attitude. Throughout the course we have seen his skills expand in concept art and 3D modelling and with this his confidence has blossomed. His final work includes some unique work which reflects the progress he has made in his own personal journey.

He has now achieved a broad portfolio of work which in many cases is above industry standard. During his final year, in addition to his final year project work Will successfully completed an internship and art test with independent game developer White Paper Games.
